Pricing depends on the square footage of decking and fence panels, the condition of the wood (how much cleaning, sanding and brightening it needs), and the stain you choose. We measure and assess the wood at the walkthrough and give you a clear written price.

Because of the intense UV and freeze-thaw here, horizontal deck surfaces typically need re-staining every 2–3 years, while vertical fences last longer. Proper prep at each interval keeps the wood protected and the color consistent.

New pressure-treated wood usually needs to dry out for a few weeks to a few months before it will accept stain properly. We'll check the moisture and recommend the right timing so the finish bonds and lasts.

Yes. Greying is surface oxidation we clean and brighten, and peeling stain is removed during prep. Once the wood is sound and properly prepped, a new stain bonds and protects as it should.

It is a trade-off between showing the grain and maximizing protection. Solid stains last longest and hide age but obscure the grain; transparent and semi-transparent show the wood but need more frequent reapplication. We will recommend based on your wood and goals.

Yes, and that's the real reason to do it. Uncoated wood absorbs water, then dries out and cracks under the UV, the cycle that leads to soft boards, splintering, and eventual replacement. A penetrating stain keeps moisture out and shields the wood from the sun, so the structure lasts longer. Re-staining on schedule is a small, recurring cost that protects you from the much bigger one of rebuilding the deck.

For decks, we almost always recommend stain. Paint sits on top of the wood and tends to peel underfoot on horizontal surfaces that take sun, water, and foot traffic, while a penetrating stain soaks in, protects from within, and wears evenly without flaking. Stain also keeps the natural grain and feel of the wood. For fences, both can work, and we'll talk through the look and upkeep you want.
